The Bicycle

Contributed by snny385 on Sunday, 21st February 2010 @ 02:04:42 PM in AEST
Topic: MiscPoems

Though there are few, I am lost in thoughts

The realization of my absence only further drives me away

This undisciplined mind seems untamable

Knowledge for the taking

Yet I fail to take

A pretty girl smiles. A heavy set man drops a book

These catch my mind’s eye

where as the sole purpose for which I am here fails to do so

I can almost see the words fly from his mouth and bounce off my ignorant head

Only if….

If I was more like them…

Like trained monkeys writing away on their college ruled notebooks until their wrists cramp

Filling their blanks sheets with ink....lots of ink.

Sheets upon sheets of written ink that just might one day get them what they strive for

And this…

This reward will also be another sheet with written ink...lots of ink, but…

It will be fancy and it will mean something.

The teacher makes a joke, somehow in my blank state of mind…

I get it. I laugh.

The teaching resumes and once again the words bounce off my oversized head.

But why exactly should we trust this professor anyways?

Im pretty sure I’ve heard him cluck before.

I think he might be a chicken dressed in a human suit.

I don’t care for poultry much.

I guess that further justifies my lack of interest in what he has to say.

Rustling of papers. People moving.

Another Class done. Another Dream dreamnt. I guess thats it.

Hard to define what makes a poet I always think.
We write from our inspiration and sometimes we inspire others.
You have indeed been creative and shown your poetic worth.

You are very creative and I feel as if you have what it takes to be a nice poet. I have difficulty comprehending why the poem is called 'The Bicycle', yet it is still a nice poem.
