A Seeker of Truth

Contributed by JakerBaker88 on Saturday, 20th February 2010 @ 05:57:11 PM in AEST
Topic: war

Searching,
Hurriedly rummaging,
Tossing aside useless material
Wanting to find something marked top-secret,
To help the boys in blue.

Then,
Suddenly,
The dainty hand chances upon a folder
Marked important,
And with the agility of a lioness,
The document is swung open to reveal delectable delicious words;

It bares all,
Chattily informing its confidant about new advancements,
Of the strategies of Johnny Reb,
What the scouts have been up to,
Singing like a jaybird about fleets
And about regiments.

Grinning from ear to ear the sleuth pockets the file;
Well-hidden under sweet smelling foods within a giant basket.

Calmly,
This beguiler sneaks out of a tent
Crudely built for reconnaissance.
And,
Playing the part of a Confederate sympathizer,
Waves, winks, smiles, nods, and curtsies
For the men in uniform.

Still smiling,
Still winking Pinkerton’s agent deceives all!------
Not a hitch occurring,
They leave out of the front of the encampment.

What a relief!
So unlike the previous mission,
When a Confederate lieutenant caught the sphinx,
Right in the act of espionage----
Holding incriminating evidence.

And thinking fast-----
WHACK
A slap across the boyish face of the enemy,
Allowing them time to slip away,
To commander a horse
And away,
Fast,
Into the night.

But,
Not so this time;
With the intelligence concealed under produce,
Under meats,
Under cheeses,
And
Under desserts
This supporter of the Union struts on home;
No lieutenants to vex them.

So home they safely travel
To debrief,
Relay new finds,
Reveal any weaknesses in the enemy front lines.

Home to stay,
To hand in that important file to their superiors
And to serve God and country;

Unafraid of the risks,
Of house arrest,
Of jail,
Or death by hanging,
And suicide by blazing bullets
They do not care.

She doesn’t care.

Sitting surrounded by her comrades
(Others just like her)
Seeking the truth,
Wanting America to stay united,
Reaching for a better tomorrow.

This passage is essential
to the way we have to respond,as far as our outlook and state of mind

You tell a good tale, vividly and with great clarity.
One of those reads that you feel building the tension the more you absorb yourself into it.
