I Used to be a Dreamer

I used to be a dreamer
Growing up within my mind
A place as wild
Or as vivid as I want it to be
I used to be a superhero
One day, and then the next
I could become a fireman
as my imagination allows
I used to live in a circus
With carousels and flying cats
One day, and then the next
I could become a princess
living in a quaint palace
I used to be different
From anyone else, I was unique
I used to lie and fantasize
Conjuring castles in the sky
Today, I am another person
As normal as every other
Terrified to be unusual
Afraid to be the odd one out
Today, I am living
In a world of black and white
Of blunt reality
That hinders dreams
Outlaws fantasies
And slaughters ambitions
I have been dead before,
When they took my dreams away.
People don't stop dreaming just because they're growing up.
They grow up, the moment they've stopped to dream.

It's a very true and beautiful poem. People without dreams live the dullest lives and will never truly be happy. If nobody gave up on there dreams, this world of ours would be a better place. |

In retrospect this is my life's story from this perspective which is truth we live in a demeaning society as children we're told we are all unique and beautiful for it than all of a sudden we're thrown these make shift existances where everone is advised to act accordingly which means like everyone else while your place in life is depicted for you just watch t.v read magazines it's abundantly clear a rightly explicit passage there's more here than the eye can see powerful depth

Great expression of life. I used to be a dreamer as well, then stopped in a real world for awhile. Guess what, I am a dreamer again!! Once you are a dreamer you will always be able to go "there" again. Thanks for reminding me of the importance to get lost in dreams now and then. You expressed it very well.
Your writing will keep you where you want to be.

I relate to this poem a lot. The severity of the realization that this applied to me as well was jolting and now I can't help but be nostalgic for what used to be... |
