Swan Song

Feathers like snowflakes,
Diving down deep
Plunging into the core of things:
Your swan dive never grows old.
Scenery paled in comparison
To such a pretty maid;
Soft features marked her face,
And it was no wonder why----
Beauty was her proprietor.
Standing on the shore,
I gazed at your glory:
“Sweet Swan,” said I---
“How elegantly you move
To and fro across the water.
How coyly you romp
This way and that across the water.
How wonderful you seem
To someone like me! For I am---
Nobody.”
"Oh, Lovely Lady," said I.
"If I were more like you,
And less like me
Think how happy I would be?
And Aphrodite would agree,
I‘d be deserving of a mate;
She’d smile upon my loneliness
Releasing a fair prince,
Upon a fair princess."
Yet, I am not fair.
I am big feet,
Lanky limbs,
And goofy grins.
I am your polar opposite----
The pigeon to your swan.
Pathetic.
(All this resounded in my mind,
Whilst standing on the shore,
Gazing at the Swan. )
My last thoughts:
Why couldn’t that be me?
Feathers like snowflakes,
Diving down deep
Plunging into the core of things,
Resurfacing into the arms of a lover?
