The sun is setting on the evening news
It’s six o’clock
She says hello through eyes of winter
His words are quiet and handsome
He’s been here before but it’s been quite a spell
She recognizes his face in a far away hell
The cigarette burns through her good looks
As she takes his order of loneliness
His smile offers complimentary thanks
As she strolls back to a tired river bank
She’s the best looking waitress at Denny’s
He works his days and drinks his nights
He wears that jersey for the rest of his life
She’s got 2 babies but is still not a wife
Her make-up covers up the last thirty years
His glory days are at the bottom of a glass
He takes a swallow and waves for the bill
She hands him the change that’s been standing still
The day has quieted to an evening moon
Its sundown
