Ex Step-Dad

Contributed by jarod on Saturday, 23rd January 2010 @ 07:02:24 PM in AEST
Topic: FamilyPoems

You will always be there for me
And this I hold for true
Maybe I was too young
To make sense of what we went through

I put you through hell
And took you for granted
But now looking back
You’re exactly what I wanted

You took care of my Mom
Through good and through bad
Her alcoholic binges to
The brother I know have

You believed in my ideas
And told me be strong
Bad times aren’t forever
There will be good before too long

There’s not enough thanks
I can give to a kind man like you
Your good hearted nature
Shows in everything you do

You and my mom have parted now
And that chapter’s done
But you’ll be in my heart forever
And Ill always be your Son

This struck a note with me and I liked it. Actually made my eyes tear up a tad. I am glad you recognized he is a good man. Hope you two stay in touch.

Nicely done.

Sorry back again. Perhaps a better title could be Dad Forever or Always Your Son since he'll always be there for you.

Take care,

A little sentimentality often goes a long way.
I'm sure I won't be the last person to comment on this, it is one of those feel good poems that we all need to read once in a while.
Nice work.

Steve
