I want my mother
we were seperated from each other
she was taken behind the trees
told to get down on her knees
told to put her hands behind her head
i could hear a shot and i knew she was dead
i was now on my own
i was taken from my house and home
The SS said we were next to the shower
i didnt want to go but it was out of my power
I knew we were all going to die
A tear wells up in my sorrow filled eye
I look up as we near the shower
and beside this machine of death is a lonesome flower
a smile creeps on my face as i see this glimpse of hope
this small beautiful flower helps me cope
with the fact that i will soon see the light
my thought interrupted by the shower door sealing tight
I close my eyes as the shower begins
destroying oxygen making it thin
all around me people coughing and gasping
outside i hear the SS laughing
i have the worst feeling inside
as i realize theres almost no more time to bide
I fall on the ground
listening to my dying hearts last pounds
soon i tell myself i will see my mother
and again we will hold each other
as i breathe my last breath
and become embraced by death

Very powerful. I am teaching the Holocaust right now in my school. You have painted a painfully moving picture here. You captured the emotion of suffering beautifully. The flower in the poem was an interesting touch for contrast. I look forward to reading more of your poetry.

The pure evil of it never fades through this passage one is made to feel like he is there it's very well depicted and ironically beautiful the optimism even in a time like this was alluring
