My Anomaly

Before I was born my daddy left
he broke my mother's heart
left her all alone, to grieve.
And my mama said she'd never forget
but she'd love me with all her heart
for all the world to see.
When I was young I swore
I would never fall in love
because I can't pay the fee.
You are only an anomaly.
Perhaps I've always known
that love never lasts
and we'll end up as lonely.
But that's okay, it hurts to cry anyway
Why put yourself through it
when it could never be free.
And I've lived comfortably like this
never gave my heart to love
because I can't pay the fee.
You are only an anomaly.
I've forgotten the smell and taste
of a world containing love
a world I can no longer see.
But you called my name and I heard you
and you stretched out your arm
you reached for me.
I said I'd never love
but you have touched my heart
and you paid the fee.
You are my only anomaly.
