Oh Angels!

Oh angels! I've had the fortune of meeting a few,
But none, I think, were as lovely as you.
With your angel's smile and the softest of eyes,
How could anyone not see behind the human disguise?
Still, secretly you nurse your broken wing,
While trying to be everyone's everything.
You've saved me so much; it's all I could do
To finally take the time to care for you.
I give you my guardians with a simple prayer,
And I look and I laugh because you're still right there.
Close enough to touch, but it's plain to see
That there's no way you could be really here with me.
Dear darling angel, I love you so,
And I wish you could just finally let go
Of all the demons haunting you
Because, in the end you must know there's nothing you can do.
You're lovely dear, no matter what they say;
I swear I won't let them take you away.
I'll give you my wings' I'll show you the truth:
That once I was an angel too.
I gave it all up love; I fell from grace,
All for that lovely smile on your face.
Someday you'll know, someday you'll see
As you fly away; I pray, with me.
