Lyrics on a Cell Door

An inmate stares
at the song lyrics
written on his cell door.
Innocent,
since not yet proven guilty,
Trapped all the same.
His family
cries and waits and prays
(even though they don't believe in it)
and misses his light
and his spirit
and his wisdom.
Innocent, Guilty,
Whats the difference anymore?
And when I pass those
Concrete walls,
Barbed wire fences,
He's in there.
Wrong place, wrong time,
Or maybe it wouldn't have mattered either way.
Those who love him,
He himself,
Wait patiently,
Trapped all the same.
Crying, praying, fighting,
It's no difference.
All helpless.
All in that cell with him.
Waiting.
Wishing that the world will someday be fair.
With no condolences
Except
That we are all
Staring at those lyrics on that cell door.
