Drown In Emptiness

As I dreamt I got this feeling
It surrounded me, slowly
suffocatingly
I was beneath the water's surface
sinking
sinking past the water's inhabitants
sinking past the murky seaweed
that grazes my face as I go past
I look up to the surface
and see the underbellies of fish
who look at me as if I were intruding
in their home, instead of drowning
I look up to see the sun-glaring
like a disappointed parent
who knows their child can do better
as if drowning were an option
I look up to the sun-stretching his fingers
like he is trying to reach me
or hold me under
My arms are empty, my hands outstretched
clawing at the water, to resurface
yet knowing I won't
my hands appear as though someone else's
beckoning me to come closer, to stay
never breathing, never dying
and then I wake up
