St Nick’s Dismay

Contributed by spike on Tuesday, 22nd December 2009 @ 04:22:20 AM in AEST
Topic: didactic

If St Nicholas could see
the travesty of his legacy
he’d throw a zealous fit
retreat to his cave and
be done with it.

A simple act of gifting,
anonymous
a humanitarian uplifting,
generous
now commercialised to the hilt
and heavily wrapped in stress and guilt.

St Nicholas to the Dutch
became Sinter Claus or some such
and over time he put on weight
cause jolly guys are less irate.
thank Coca Cola for the red suit
—that was after it lost its toot.

Anglicised to Santa Clause,
the mythology is well ensconced
with industrious, union free elves
and reindeer to drive the cause.
now he is omniscient
stalking days as well as dreams;
master of space and time
at least on Christmas Eve, it seems.

Nonsense all, without a doubt
but common sense will not win out
hand-wringing psychologists plea
you’ll traumatise the kiddies, see,
if you give the lie to fantasy.

Any guy who takes the credit
for all my hard earned effort
and threatens impressionable souls
to be good or its sacks of coal,
then winks and gives kids knowing looks
is highly suspect in my books

…along with all those retail crooks

…now where’s my bloody present?

Spike,It's not spoken of enough this truth
We live in a world where, to lie for profit is the norm
Even let our children sit in the shadows of our lies
Fantastic write plain and simple.Thank You

Brilliant write!
Back to school for the corporates, and all else who have truly lost their sight!
Childhood will never be the same, nor will their meaning of true values.
Here endeth the lesson!
