We Were There

On this night I wonder, thinking deeply
Beautiful pictures past and present etched forever
So perfect and timely in nature
A gift to many
Asking nothing, for that is who you are
A sister without judgement
A daughter without pause
A mother in a true reflection
Evolving me yet more today as I watch
Smiling
But unfairly life breathes
Exhaling mostly
Inhaling at just the wrong moment
Swallowing up time as if it weren’t there
Gripping harder to today
Afraid to let go
Afraid to sleep
I wake, life has inhaled yet again
I remember what was and pray for what is to come
You’ve reminded me
Giving freely, laughing as he inhales
Allowing me to accept what is past
Allowing me to anticipate what’s yet to come
