I Saw You on The Street Today

Contributed by LJ on Saturday, 5th April 2003 @ 04:45:00 PM in AEST
Topic: ApologyPoetry

I saw you on the street today
I did not know what to say
I couldn’t face you standing there
The knowing stare I could not bare
I slowed my pace as not to meet
On this gray and dreary street
You may have known long before I did
Where your husband’s heart was hid
I was blinded to the signs
I didn’t want his heart as mine
You may have known and suffered alone
Seeing where his affection was shone

If I had known I would have set him free
Naïve, I guess. Blind, maybe
I didn’t know till those words three
I’m in love with thee.
I told him no, and walked away
But from me he just wouldn’t stay
He pressed; he pushed, and then just took
As in fear my heart shook
Scared and all alone, so very far from home
My flesh gave into this most horrible sin
I respect you and hold you in highest esteem
Wishing I could say that this was just a dream

You can hate me forever, it would be justified
Know that I am sorry and every night I have cried
I don’t know how to repay the damage that is done
Or stop that fallout that’s begun
I’m so sorry for betraying you in this way
At your mercies I now lay
My confession is sincere
Though maybe not what you want to hear
That is all that I can say
No words have I to repay
I ask your forgiveness for my sin against you
Knowing this is what God has asked me to do

This is so sincere and so sad... I hope your apology is accepted and that things work out for all concerned...
I have often written apologies instead of doing face to face...

This one, after much much much prayer...will be a face to face or phone to phone apology. It will all be in God's timing.

Dear LJ, Yes, this would be difficult to speak .. or to hear, knowing the scope of hurting that is being experienced. Some say a letter is cowardly, but I think its surely better than no apology. Some things, people will accept in a poem that they would never stand still long enough to hear! One does whatever they are able to make amends, then let it go, right?

I do agree. But this apology will eventually be in person...well that's the plan as of now. That is what God has called me to do and that is what I must do regardless of the consequences.

Friend, LJ
