Who Could Ask For More

Contributed by Rakerman1999 on Sunday, 13th December 2009 @ 11:11:53 AM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

Tightly held by arms of sadness,
Hand of fate to wipe my tears,
Loneliness my staunch companion,
Always there to calm my fears,
If I long to know the pleasure,
Of a warm and tender kiss,
Lips of pain are always willing,
Who could ask for more than this.

I look upon my own reflection,
In my shattered mirror of dreams,
A thousand weeping eyes peer back,
And call to me with silent screams,
But still my ears refuse to listen,
Deafened in my world of bliss
I have all I'll ever need,
Who could ask for more than this.

So save your tender words of comfort,
Really now, I will be fine.
I have all a man could want,
Why, I can even call you mine,
And that would just be one more brick,
In my house built on a lie,
Where I can finally lock the door
And have a peaceful, private cry.

I noted the somber tone in your comment; it's good to see that the oldies are still around. This site is our long-lost teddy bear. I'm sure we'll be back.

Oh, and your simple, unadorned style, combined with the moving sentiments and potent twists, still make you one of the poets that I first aspired to be like. Just in case you didn't know.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
