Where do you go when you’ve lost your life?
Is it like losing a pair of socks at the Laundromat? Is there, somewhere, a lost-and-found for purpose?
Does there exist a second-hand store where you can purchase reason and meaning?
What about a supermarket where one can purchase an economy-size bottle of passion, happiness or inner peace?
Is there an automatic wash where you can trade quarters for a fresh start?
Or a super-powered cleaner that can eliminate misery when diluted in a gallon of water?
If one reads enough labels, is it possible to discover the ingredient which can lessen the appearance of sadness?
Can I find at the airport a conveyor belt which will carry away emotional baggage and ship it off to some third-world country?
Who can tell me the price for finding myself again, and is there an acceptable currency to pay for it other than blood, sweat and tears?
Is it too much to ask that the path away from despondency and pain be marked with one of those flashing arrows used to warn you of a lane closure on the highway?
Can I go to the department store and buy an alarm to warn me when I am unknowingly breathing in destruction?
Perhaps there is a simple upgrade to convert frustration and helplessness into stability and satisfaction?
When will a cure for loneliness be available at my local pharmacy? Surely if I watch closely enough I will see a commercial for a new miracle drug which can mask the symptoms of heartache as a tube of pain reliever masks a toothache.
You would think that with all our greatness as a species, we’d have the technology to bypass a broken heart or mend a fractured soul.
There has got to be a way to manufacture happiness.
Perhaps I’ll invent it and put a patent on it.

Hey, I have been working on an emotion switch for years but have been unable to get it to work correctly. It's a simple thing, really, just switch them off and on at will...if only...if only I could get it to work. Say, perhaps we can team up, you with your manufactured happiness and me with my emotion switch the possibilities could be quite intriguing.
This was quite an enjoyable and unique read. I really like the metaphor scenarios of upgrading. Pretty damn cool if I say so myself. The title is great!!!!
