I remember playing
in the open field
in the fort my friend and I built
on top a firmly rooted Weeping Willow.
Leo and I
fending off the enemy below
as they diligently worked all points
to gain access to us
to have us
succumb.
I stood down the first one
who proposed a credible entrance
by releasing the rope ladder and
spreading myself across the hatchway.
I remember watching Leo
as he tossed himself over the top gate rail
while crying out ...
"Geronimo"
And how the friendly Willow branches
granted him
time
and
a balance
as he clung to them
on his way down.
I didn't have a need
to see him land
or
to see the others run.
For to me
we had won
once
that cry was made.

A fantastic memory of childhood!
How i love to look back at the days when
we were free to roam and play, all those
secret little hideouts that brought so much
fun and imagination to life!
Wicked write!!!
