Lights are on and nobody's home

Contributed by reprobate on Wednesday, 9th December 2009 @ 11:50:35 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Where is that door that opportunity beats on
I haven't found anything but a blank wall
Banging my head against it does nothing for me
Except for causing pain and I've had my fill

Knees raw from crawling through this life
The taste of blood and tears bitter on my tongue
My heart knows only heaviness and sorrow
And my soul longs for a peace denied me

I've worked hard to be this poor, you know
I've noone to blame but myself, I believe
Still, I think I deserve some kind of relief
From all this misery I'm forced to endure

I drag myself to each new day, alone
While my dreams lay murdered in the night behind
How do I explain my grievous sins to myself
When I don't know what it was I did so wrong

If there is a god, he's having the time of his life
Laughing at this fool for trying when he can't ever win
Sure my dreams are dead -- along with my faith
No use praying when I only end up talking to myself

Hi,

You're not so poor when you can write like this!

Hang in there, pal. There are many ways of
stamping your mark on this world, and your
writing is your 'mark.'

A searching sensible piece of verse!

Tommy
