Love is best when it is just for fun
Born less from transcendent forces but from human need.
If their love is slightly less than they could afford,
Requiring for its brilliance the sunlight to raise its seed,
Blessed be these lovers,
They will find their lifetime yearning not ignored,
And their bond will never be undone.
But should your love be cosmically born,
As true as the summer’s day is long,
Shining of its own accord with heaven’s light
Leaving no question of to whom each belongs,
Beware doomed lovers,
You will find your eyes blinded by the sight
And separately will your wounds be worn.

Yikes and ouch! But well-written. My favorite line is "if their love is slightly less than they could afford" - makes me think of finding a bargain on a car, or something like that. Great and funny imagery for love, because it's unexpected, and because it fits the upsidedown-ness of your poem. Good work! |
