Looking Back on Us

Retrospect changed your smile
the taste of your kiss
passionate expulsion of breath
Seems silly now
Worn like my denial of truth
the reaching out again
heartache in your absence
Love; the fleeting daydream
All the letters are torn
the flimsy, baseless tokens
meaning is but a human condition
I stand now, a whole person
Need was a false lesson
the silhouette in the window
mocking my inner security
I understand and am finally free.
