He sat beside a laughing stream and watched as in a trance,
the rocks and pebbles smoothed by time;
caught in a watery dance.
And in the shadows, cool and quiet,
his eyes close gently slow.
"Dear God" he prayed "there's something I must do before I go.
Don't take me now, although I know my time on Earth is done;but before I journey to you I must see my wife and son".
The old man wept as sleep caressed his sad and burdened mind,
and memories of a time long passed...
of those he left behind,
appeared with crystal clarity for him alone to see.
An old man with a guilty heart...
beneath a Willow tree.
The Sun died and soon, a robust Moon
wept on his lidded eyes,
as in his dreams he heard again,
his family's desperate cries.
"Oh Billy please don't leave us here"!
"Oh Daddy, please don't go"!
But you see, the bush it called to him
in a way most folks don't know.
"I'll always love you Billy; I'll wait how long it takes. I'll turn the soil and raise our son...
even kill the bloody snakes".
But Billy just kept walking, and never once looked back.
Just faded like an echo, up a long forgotten track.
He'd had his youth how soon it went,
and now his body worn and spent...
lay where no human eyes could see,
in a blanket of guilt 'neath a Willow tree.
Soon it seemed his slumber ended,
'tho' he'd slept until the Sun.
A peaceful calm flowed in him,
he had faced the wrong he'd done.
'Twas then he watched in wonder,
the air awash with light;
from the sky above, a pure white Dove
shed a tear for Billy's plight.
His wife and son stood waiting,
quietly in the shade.
In a fire they'd died, his son and bride
the year he went away.
Beside the Lord they'd waited,
in Heaven whilst he did roam,
and now they'd come, his wife and son...
to take their Billy home.

thankyou Jenni,
I nearly didn't post it because the others I've read are all so good. Your compliment has made my day.
