Now released from this ball and chain
No longer do I feel the pain
The darkness lifts, I see the light
I shield my eyes for it’s too bright
I stand, my heart begins to race
My weakened hands held to my face
I walk outside and look around
Chirping birds are the only sound
This weight my shoulders used to bear
Has been released in this warm air
I don’t know what’s come over me
Vision so clear now I can see
I hear the angels from up high
So relieved I begin to sigh
I see you from across the field
My broken heart forever healed
My once weak legs now stand so strong
This life I wanted for so long
My wrists no longer have the scars
I’m free not trapped behind these bars
This ship that had once sailed away
Is anchored now and here to stay
I found the shore, no longer lost
A flower now freed of cold frost
This rope now lifted from my throat
No final words for my last note
Hurtful memories tucked away
I long to live another day
Finally you have rescued me
For in my hand I hold the key
The sun has broken through the rain
Now in this life I shall remain
