Topic:
war
|
we stand heads down gun by our side
rain poring down on us
turning the mud into a slippery
sticky mess under our feet
the order comes
we grab our guns and climb
out into no mans land
we charge bullets and shells
fly by us then suddenly
I feel a warm feeling
I fall
my eyes close
my eyes open
I am in no mans land
there is no bullets or shells
I look around finding only
a cemetery I walk the rows
of cold gray stones
finally stopping at one
as I read it all becomes clear
for the name on the stone
is my own

I was made much more aware of world war 1 just recently and your poem has personalised the loss in a sea of 10 million lives |
