Tango With The Shadows

At night when you're far
And I'm all alone,
I turn the light off
And put our favorite song on.
Alone I close my eyes
And imagine you,
Dancing with the shadows,
In the darkness of the night.
It's delirious - I know,
But at least it's a hope,
Bringing you closer to me
A little bit.
Music fills my ears,
Killing loneliness
For awhile.
While I'm dancing with the shadows,
Shadow of mine, shadow of yours,
I touch the cold walls in that place
Where should be your hand,
And it's getting warm,
As if you're there, though you're not,
Though it breaks my heart in two, honey.
And the music and memories is all I've got,
The darkness holds me close,
Just like your hands around my body.
I wish I could get this shadow bodied
Into something real to feel the warm
But this is just a dream, a stupid illusion,
One of a million different ways to kill time,
When you're not around.
So I'm dancing with the shadows
In the darkness of an empty room,
I'm rolling across an empty room,
With your picture in my hands,
Kissing the air, around my face,
Getting lost up in the music,
Mentally getting closer to you
A little bit.
My heartbeat sounds not so loud
As against the basses of my speaker-phones,
So this time I may call that this is enough,
Cos shadows never brought the pieces of warm,
None of them.
But that's all I've got,
When you're not around,
So I miss your body's heat,
I miss your baby blues,
Dancing this weird tango in the darkness
With an invisible partner
Instead of you.
It'll never replace you,
Cos this is just a shadow,
I'm dancing with now,
The partner for lonely tango,
But that's all I've got
When you're not around.
