No Such Abyss

I’ve yet to find it’s colour
But it surely isn’t black
Maybe a steely, monotone grey
Defines this beaten track
It has too many elements,
Too complex to be dark
Not when it rears it head
And stands here plain and stark
And how could I claim
That it’s become a raven shade
Even while I’m rendered futile
While it’s pushing to invade
And while the deepest ebony
Was what I made my hair
In those times I when was feigning
Such a meaningless despair,
It just can’t be obsidian
For my hair is back to brown.
That’s not a colour with such depth
That one can almost drown
It becomes so compulsive
But onyx it is not
Its place within the spectrum
Seems to be a nameless spot
Though when morose and stricken
I examine what I lack,
Its shade is most elusive
But it surely isn’t black.

I like the way you weaved all the words together to make the whole piece.
Thought provoking

Excellent work, especially the first and third stanzas, which flowed with an intelligent elegance.
