Because I Fell In Love

Contributed by jennguy41 on Monday, 2nd November 2009 @ 12:57:49 PM in AEST
Topic: goodbyepoetry

We started as enemies, then we became friends,
but what happened next was
the beginning of the end.
Why? Because I fell in love.

The name calling started and
then the bruises followed.
It didn't take long before
I was hollow.

You demeaned me, and beat me
until I was broken.
I was beaten down with no fight left,
I was completely shattered.
Why? Because I fell in love.

I chose a path to take me from
your prison to another.
This was what I needed you see,
to find myself so I could be free.
Why? Because I fell in love.

I found myself and I got strong,
I can do this on my own.
I came out of the prison gates
only to realize that my life was gone.
Why? Because I fell in love.

I started my life without you,
I was happy, confident, and full of hope.
Then on day out of the blue,
you showed back up without a clue.

Two weeks of bliss was only a miss,
you stole all that I'd become with just one kiss.
You came and went like a thief in the night,
only to destroy all I had in my sight.
Why? Because I fell in love.

My world was destroyed I wanted to die.
I was beaten and broken no way to survive.
Then I met him. . .
He showed me what I'd forgotten
and helped me get back what I worked so hard for,
I can honestly say i'm not angry anymore. . .
Why? Because I fell in love.

My husband be happy wherever you are,
I love you enough to say. . .
"Goodbye"
Why? Because I fell in love.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
