Converse Carnivals

The noisily heaving and sighing bus
parks his sooty grievances
at the bus stop just outside
the old, smutty shopping centre
An enclave of musty and sweaty massage parlours
offering a bourgeoning myriad
of extra services.
Times are hard, they say.
Flagrantly adorning the gaudy walls of the builing,
are garish lights
that blink in unison,
seducing many decrepit old men
and young and dangerous teenaged runts,
well, ruffians on their computer screens
in the gaming shops, at least .
On the top layer of the disgruntled decker bus
the colourful dancing lights
give their own performance,
reflected on the windows of the bus
they disguise themselves
as whimsical carnival lights
spread out against the blank night sky
A festive ferris wheel,
reaching out towards the clouds
rocking new found lovers back and forth

We flew around the city, invisible. You talked, you wrote, I listened and read. |
