Halloween Song

The night was dark. The night was long.
The demons sang a haunting song.
The teenage tricks and children’s treats
were laughed about along the streets.
One stood out among the rest.
She stood alone; she looked the best
of all the costumes in the town
so no one knew why she would frown.
Spiderwebs were in her hair.
A dark aura hung in the air.
Her dress was torn and stained with blood.
Her shoes were worn and caked with mud.
She walked along, her cauldron swinging.
She moved her lips but wasn’t singing.
No words came out as she kept walking.
She didn’t notice the people gawking
as she went from door to door
until her cauldron could hold no more.
She reached the end; she looked the best.
She faded, her spirit laid to rest.
