We walked and thought and talked
I liked everyone in my group and they all liked me
As we made sense of the chaos the sun went down
The sky was made for us
The red setting sun brought us closer
We sat around the fire feeling hopelessly content
A good meal brings silence
We thought some more and I listened
Our dreams were different, but our desires one
As I fell asleep a wolf howled
I felt safe, there were plenty of bullets
We took turns keeping watch as dreams chased us
The morning was baked by the sun
Its violent furnace gives us life, and life beauty
I wouldn’t want to die on a sunny day
Rocks melted as we got to their village
Vengeance took its toll on us but we had to finish
Their blood assured our survival
We left death behind and walked
We marveled at the gorges and the trees above
I saw one of their young hiding in a bush
We were once children like him
His innocence and fear reflected ours
We pondered his loyalty
We told stories as the child stared
He lost his identity but we knew were he’d find it
We armed him and sent him first into the next village

Hi,
This is extremely thought provoking, and I'm
curious to know if written from some personal
experience - or is it an imaginary take on our
inherent instincts?

I wrote this cause I watched a national geographic show about some explorers who were kidnapped by the rebel group responsible for the 94 Rwanda genocide. I also read a book about a boy who at age 12 saw his village wiped out by diamond profiteers in Africa. Then they kidnapped him and made him one of them by giving him a gun, pot and cocaine.
As far as human nature goes... were just products of our enviornments |
