Frost on the pumpkin

Contributed by shelby on Thursday, 15th October 2009 @ 09:12:13 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

I love the fall and this time of year.
The harvesters are all rolling.
I often think of life back home
it all seems so long ago.

Kissing the wings of summer goodbye.
The leaves all turning to crimson and gold.
Change in the weather from warm to chilled
and the first night of the big white frost.

There soon will be frost on the pumpkins
and the farmers are all working real hard.
The potatos are being turned out of their beds
to be put away for winter into a different snug warm bed.

I think back to the fall apples all shiny and red
and the smell of them warming in the house.
The garden all picked and the pumpkins waiting
as we chose one to cut on his head.

As I sit here today gazing out the window
the sky is all gray and the wind is chilling.
There are no apple trees no garden no pumpkins
no fields turning golden no potatos to harvest.

Just a big city out there and all of its noise.
Yet I can still think back to that little country side.
The frost on those pumkins and poking its head,
the apples all picked and the spuds tucked into bed.

An occasional phone call from a friend back home
and she reminds me of all the work getting ready for winter morn
and I sigh to myself and have memories fond
as I listen to traffic and noisy honking horns.

Yet in my mind I can pretend that I see
a good share of pumpkins sitting in a patch outside just for me.
I sit here a smiling while writing this poem,
the rain is now pouring and the wind lets out a moan.
Knocking the pine cones off of the trees
no pumpkins around here but in my mind I still see.

Awesome Memory's.
When I was in the great northwest at night I would take myself on a journy and see all my trees, plants, lawn everthing one by one. That's been 'bout 14 years and now I really do see them here every day. There's no place like home and the vision of home keep one going till you're home again.
Luv ya, big huggs, blessings, good memory's,
emy

Truly beautiful Michelle ... very much like the poet who penned it.
I enjoyed reliving fond memories of my own in this piece.
Oh how I wish my girls would have had the opportunity to live outside the city ... if only for a moment.

Peace
~Shannon

In this piece I can really feel the brisk chill of autumn and colors changing around...and within me.

shel, there is a melancholy in this that breaks me. Perhaps it's
the loss of sunny days, but somehow the dreary thoughts that
are the dead of winter, kill the beauty that is autumn. Your writes
are so completely emotive, hun. I am missing those fields right
along with you in this, (even though I'm still living in a mostly
rural area and pumpkins abound!). We just picked up a couple
to carve. I don't know if it's the colour or the shape or the smell
but they make me glad down inside.

Wonderful post, sweets. I wish you a very happy and spooky Hallowe'en. :D

*huge hugs*

~ Breezy

I just love "Memory" writes Celle.......As I more ancient each day, it seems my mind remembers what I did when I was 3, ask me what I ate this morn for breakfast, on second thought don't ask me?*smiles*
Sitting in the rain, and the sounds of the city all around........feelings you imply, and give to all your readers abound!
Thank you for the Memories dear............
You made them so clear, I too could see them in my "Mind's Eye" so near.
Warm love
consue
