Mind Gymming

Contributed by RobWeldon on Friday, 9th October 2009 @ 02:28:32 AM in AEST
Topic: didactic

Push-ups and let-downs;
Treadmill that won’t let me stand still.
Regret: need cappuccino and cigarette.
Leotards stretched tight

Forced between buttocks that might
If pressed, burst with force from their Lycra casing,
Jammed between cracks of flabby backsides,
Florescent dreams, threadbare seams.

Old and young; who smells more the rich or the poor?
“Mustn’t grumble,” will be the only words on reflection I’ll be able to mumble,
When I’m old and stiff balancing on feet somehow too small,
When I’m eighty and more weighty.
The way it’s going I’ll be dead at forty if I stick with the gym;
That’s a forty year dilemma!

Whisper softly. If it ever gets out that living today for yesterday’s dreams is not all it seems,
And might not be the answer to fighting the flab of our excesses.
Keep it quiet; cover your secret beneath smart suits and evening dresses
Our membership will without notice expire and depress us.

Pah! Look here, new vistas to visit. This game is all gain.
Not if I end up sinking not swimming by constantly mind gymming.
Running machine - please – stop unravelling my dream;
Pulled down by push-ups. Toppled by leg-curl.

“Free weights!” A cry to be set loose from their burdensome frame;
Leg-curl stretching worn ligaments to extend,
Beyond new promised powers which never end.

My worry unbending?
Think again: maybe my philosophy needs mending.

Dumb-bell; stupid pec-dec. Sit up then push off.
Lateral pull-down in one easy move: make my crooked back stronger and narrow shoulders improve.
I have problems to carry; this world weighs a ton.
Sit there and don’t flinch; you’re held by the lateral prevention.
Far reaching, I can touch your toes as well – flattened to the floor by a moral extension.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
