Kicking cricket:
Shaking at the wicket
In the middle of a game
Of local village cricket
Young Jim’s knees wobbled to his shame
The bowler’s arm reached high to fling
A fast and true aimed bouncer
His name was Marmaduke Husslebling
And his reputation simply read ‘Trouncer’
Our hero, Young Jim, though not sure what to do
Stood firm and upright for a second
Then kicked it with his shoe
“Kick it? In cricket?” That’s not a sporting rule
Young Jim walked off in hurried shame
And wandered back to school
