Life's tides

Topic: toughstuff

From time to time
I find myself lost in thoughts of doubt
And as I fall deep in these
Its hard to look about
For as I look all about
All I see is others
And in these others I see success
Success I fear I may never know
And as this time does pass by
This fear begins to grow
And as the oceans tides do flow
These thoughts do rise and fall
And as they rise I sink within
As if being drug under
Under the tide that is my own
This tide of my very own thoughts
These thoughts like waves
They pound so heavy
Heavy upon my heart
And as harder and harder they seem to pound
Farther I do sink
Dragged down by my own despair
And as in these depths I do struggle
I struggle towards a distant surface
Trying to find my feet
As I toss and as I turn my feet do find a bottom
Sharp and loose this bottom seems and tears my feet apart
But in my struggle I see a light
A light beyond the top
Beyond the top of each desperate wave
Beyond the tide so deep
And in this light I do see hope
Hope and warmth above
And as tides often do
It then began to fall
And out from my doubts I came
All drenched in tears of relief
From the rocky bottom
Of all my sorrowed thoughts
I pushed above a tide so strong
And here is what I found
Though day by day things may get worse
And sometimes they may pull you down
Just hold your breathe and wait it out
For life is like the steady tide
Though it may rise
And the waves may grow
And quickly pull you under
And though you may find no ground to comfortable stand upon
Time will pass as time always does
And soon this tide will fall
And as it falls the light will shine
And all your fears and all your doubts
Will slowly turn again
So though from time to time
I may find myself lost in thoughts of doubt
Just remember in every life
Yours theirs and mine
Life does flow like the waters of a deep and frightening see
In these doubts the tides do raise
But in time they will fall
And when they fall
I may look about
And see other’s lost in life’s vast sea

An impressive first write. I just looked over some of the first poems I ever posted on here (just over a year ago) and they were absolute garbage, with no clear understanding of rhythm at all. You however clearly understand rhythm and how to put a poem together and this was truly very good. Keep up the good work.
