anguished
|
I left the path behind me
And breathed a sigh of relief
My new path lay before me
And I stepped forward
Embarking on a new journey
Excitement and anticipation deserted me
I was left with
Déjà vu
The person was different
But the situation was all too familiar
The cold hand of fear gripped me
I was reading his body language
Just like before
I was holding his gaze
Just like before
I was thinking of his actions
Just like before
I was holding onto hope
Just like before
I had no clue what was going on
Just like before
I bared my feelings
Just like before
I heard “let’s be friends”
Just like before
I accepted his constant attention
Just like before
I pondered his meaning
Just like before
A new path
A similar set of circumstances
I desperately wanted to believe
But past scars were my constant reminder
I wore doubt as a cloak of safety
And fear became my weapons of protection
I would not go through it again
My steps became cautious
And I now walk the path with eyes and ears open
Ready to strike
Ready to escape

A great piece of self expression here. Very nice flow. You conveyed the feeling of getting burned and how we move on with that cautiousness very well.
Nice write.
Thanks,
