Darkness vs silence

Darkness vs silence

Black the only familiar color
and sounds the only vision seen.
I have held a rose in my hand
and smelled it,
just don't know what it looks like......

Silence the only sound ever heard
and even though movement is happening around you
nothing really makes sense.
The sound of laughter and crying
all sounds the same,
like nothing.

Don't know what a waterfall looks like
never saw the sun rise
nor the mountains in the distance
Don't know the beauty in anything.
Don't know if beauty has a face.
Even if it did I will never see it.

I see the waterfall
just water falling.......
I see the sun rise
and the birds flying
just flying.....
Can't hear them singing...

Never saw my wife in her wedding dress.
Never saw my daughter on her graduation.
Never saw my son play sports.
Never saw my grand child.
I never saw........

Can't hear my husband say "I love you"
Can't hear my baby say "mama"
Can't hear my girlfriend calling me just to hear how my day was.
Can't hear the sound of my name.
Can't hear.....

These things we take for granted and don't realise
that in darkness we see
and with silence we hear
that all the things that's important to us
should be treasured like you will never see it again
or hear it never more.

me and my friends would always ask those hypothetical questions, and this was one of them.
anyway, u've explained yourself wonderfully here, and it's a sad truth people take whatever they have for granted. you've empathized with the deaf/blind quite nicely here. great write...

take care
