The Island

The island

I have built my life into an island.
Awash in a sea of humanity,
Yet I am untouched by that sea.
My soul once swam in that ocean and reveled in its touch ,
Visitors to the island were to numerous to count.

No more; now the only visitors to the island,
Come to see what they can take from it.
Don’t know how it happened,
When the lushness of my life became bleak and arid.
Each new day dawning with no rescue in sight.

My island is littered with the flotsam and jetsom,
Of wishes unfulfilled, love unreturned.
Now I have only my thoughts to nourish my soul.
Surrounded by that human sea,
Yet in my mind totally alone .

I get what you are trying to say and you have described it well through your poem......being on an island surrounded by sea....and still feeling alone with all that water around you.....like having family and friends around you and still you feel alone and empty at times.........I can totally relate.......

i live on top of a mountain in a forest and for four years after
a wildfire i was completely alone, no- if any- visitors and no
internet, my only friends and neighbors animals- nature; so
i get the alone thing totally, i would never want that to happen
again, i find that even the internet is life and we as humans
need that.... you know that saying 'no man is an island' -row
to the mainland a bit more:)

hugs n' love nessa
