Goodbye, Not Goodnight

Contributed by anomalei on Tuesday, 22nd September 2009 @ 04:17:02 AM in AEST
Topic: goodbyepoetry

Late golden afternoon
Sunlight glitters sparkles and saunters over summer,
Making it appear just as bronze
As it will soon enough, with autumn hues.

you’re gone –
like I thought you’d be.
leaves fall, trees release
their grasp on this
dying idea.

So it rains today?
Yesterday –
Or so it seems –
Was full of sunshine, warmth –
Not this misty gray.

the things I thought reminded me of you –
were only my own.
so there’s nothing to trigger a memory,
I can’t recall the scent you wore;
doesn’t matter.

Too soon! Summer isn’t over!
Craving sunburn,
Unbearable heat
Colorful skies,
Just one more day.

I cut the strings
I’d so carefully tied
between you and me.

One more night to be alive
Step outside and meet the wall of steamy humidity
Not the usual dark chill
You would expect, and still expect
Because this is the exception.

the songs we sang, I sing alone
the stars we counted,
are all my own.
when the season rolls around again –
someone new.

The warm sun kisses your remembering skin
The cold breeze floating through you,
Embracing you,
Only to whisper ‘fall’.
Synonym, precursor, catalyst –
Death.

it’s all over now –
this season.

Very, very good...
Well, much better than that...
Very unique, and I must say, with a nice little twist....
And it makes you think, no drivel here....
I hope that you have more like this....
Steve

Wow...very original...
I have never quite come across such a writing
very unconventional.
It creates vivid pictures, has multiple layers of meaning, and myriad shades of emotions ...!
Stunningly beautiful...Keep up the good writing !

Astonishing writing. It had emotion, imagery and delicacy. This was the best bit:

'One more night to be alive
Step outside and meet the wall of steamy humidity
Not the usual dark chill
You would expect, and still expect
Because this is the exception.'

Simply superb, 5 stars.

-Phil
