Time to change

Contributed by LadyRose on Sunday, 20th September 2009 @ 05:03:54 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

An accident nearly tore my neck from my head.
An accident that should have never happened.
Had too much to drink and just had to drive intoxicated.
Now I am paying a life sentence.
Let me tell you the pain I feel
laying on my back with screws in my skull.
The doctor said it's called a traction
to align my spine.
I need to lay in this position for 3 months.
On my back, can't move my neck......
you should see my car,a wreck.
And my brother,dead
His wife,dead.
My pregnant fiancé?
.....dead......
I am the only survivor....
A drunken driver.
Everything I was living for
.......gone..........
My unborn child?
A face I will never see.
Why am I still living?
I had life seconds before my car crashed into a truck.
Now,with any luck,I may not ever walk again.
Lost my family.
I am responsible for so many lives lost.
I live with death on my mind constantly.
I am in traction,
I have to straighten my life,
I still have a chance........
because this much pain can't be for nothing.
Can't even commit suicide....
Stuck in this position for 3 months.
.........so much time to change.

The mentality of a drunk driver has to change before they get behind the wheel of a car. The reality is that there are consequences. Driving while intoxicated isn’t just an illegal choice; it can also be a life sentence.
Your thought sparks awareness, and that’s why I like it… Thank you “ J “

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
