Who, What, Why

Why must it be a paradox, that Who am I
Sure, it helps to know the who it is, asking
Yet, without that asking, are you certain
It's truly you standing in shadow'd doubt
An odd collection of experience and mishaps
History's not all you are but nothing else fits
Are you the sum of those promises finally kept
Or only the provider of the many commitments
Meandering through the clock's horrible push
Wondering, also, what it is you're here for
Why the suffering because of life's ignorance
Is there truly a reason for any of this at all
Staring blindly out into the interminal days
Brain's on fire with the child-like questions
And you feel "I must ask if I am to progress"
"To become the who it is that I'm destined"
Standing there, fists clenched, eyes open
No one at all to fight and nothing to see
You're so confused, all you want to know
Is that "Who am I" and Why am I here"
