Blackie was a little pup who loved to romp and play,
and happily he spent his time every single day,
and every afternoon near four his ears would prick with joy,
as he heard the happy laughter of his friend the little boy.
They ran to meet each other, as best friends often do,
and there upon the soft green grass they played and roughhoused too,
and as they sat and watched the sun fall slowly from the sky,
the puppy knew that always on the boy he could rely.
After dinner, off to bed, the little boy did go,
the puppy all alone again, did softly whimper so,
but the boy had heard his puppy cry and kissed his tiny head,
then grabbed the pup and hugged him tight and placed him in his bed.
Snuggled up all nice and warm they drifted off in slumber,
the puppy dreaming puppy dreams, so full of joy and wonder,
and there they lay, side by side, both sleeping like a log,
a little boy and his friend, the little puppydog.
The puppy was the first to wake and greet the brand new dawn,
he scratched and stretched and arched his back and gave a mighty yawn,
a big wet lick he placed upon the face of his best friend,
and then he hopped up on his chest and licked him once again.
But still the boy slept soundly - as kids so often do,
and so the puppy looked for something on which to softly chew,
the puppy spied his ear and on his ear he did attack,
and the boy awoke and saw a face of mischief looking back.
They had a game of hide and seek underneath the covers,
nothing could suppress the joy of these two young fun-lovers,
then off they ran to eat before going out to play,
a boy, his pup, best friends both, to start a brand new day.
They chased each other all around that vast expanse of lawn
through piles of leaves neatly raked earlier that morn,
and in amongst all the leaves, a missing toy he found
a frisbee long forgotten he found laying the ground.
The boy picked up his frisbee and threw towards the pup
but the frisbee caught upon a breeze and quickly it rose up,
far beyond the fence it flew, out into the street
but the little boy had watched it go and sprang swiftly to his feet.
Through the gate and down the path ran the little boy
out in to the street he ran to save his flying toy,
and there he spied it laying in the middle of the road
and without a glance left nor right on to the road he strode.
The driver of the car braked hard but never had a chance
as the boy had stepped out on the road without a sideways glance,
and with smoking tyres and screeching brakes the car began to skid
as the driver tried so very hard not to hit the kid.
But nothing could be done to prevent the boy from dieing
as the car slammed in to the kid and sent his body flying,
high in to the air it arced then crumpled to the ground
his crushed and broken body-bits lay scattered all around.
His was yet another tragic waste of precious life
which could have been avoided and saved a lot of strife,
if only he had listened to the wisdom of his dad
the boy would be alive and his puppy oh-so glad.
But many months have been and passed since the boy had died
and still the puppy missed his friend and still the puppy cried,
so let this be a lesson, to all you girls and boys
look both ways when on a road - AND PICK UP ALL YOUR TOYS!

Oh damn it John you made me cry!
This poem from start to finish held every single inch of my heart, it hits home in a close way too. Beautiful verse, sad but good solid message in it too......
Now I need to go wipe my eyes!
Hugs
