I know what Mum said
I know what you’re saying.
But I still don’t get why.
Why you?
You need to stay
Here with us
With you’re wife and daughter
And son and mother.
Other people can fight the battles
You always talk about.
You don’t need to go
Please don’t go out.
Listen to the families
Others had to leave.
Dad, my Daddy
They aren’t coming back.
Please listen to me!
Now you’ve told me, it’s true
That you won’t get hurt
You’ll be back soon.
But Daddy I know
You’re just saying that.
6 months is a long time
And I know you’re the front line.
There are people with families
Dying out there
Dad, do you even care
That you might leave us?
You won’t see me again.
Wait, I get it now.
You want us to be safe.
You want no other man,
To do what you have to do.
To leave they’re lives
And families behind.
I understand
You love us
You’ll be back soon.
We love you, Daddy
Come back, with the others.
Soon.

At a young age do we ever truly understand adult ways of thinking.
Perhaps not until we are adult ourselves do we see the bigger picture.
Nice work
