The Sinking Of A Child's Mind

Contributed by christinalwk on Tuesday, 15th September 2009 @ 05:03:29 PM in AEST
Topic: Grief

The raging storm quiets
I lift my head
strain to hear

I bury my fear
slowly descend the wooden steps
lightly climbing down

from the cracked door
quiet sobbing emerges
a sorrowful regret

my child's frame tiptoes
nervous but determined
laying a hand upon the door

under my touch it explodes
a beast emerges
pushing past me

blindly I step in
liquid encompasses my bare feet
in terror I look down

I step out of the blood
avoiding the shards of glass
navigating a morbid maze

focusing eyes upward
I am met by the wounded animal
slumped like a child

in fear she sobs silently
I approach her tenderly
like a mother to her child

she looks up seeing past me
her hand holds her forehead
blood escapes the fingers

the man returns towels in hand
hands them to me
for my sister and I to clean

he extends a hand toward her
my trembling mother takes it
leaving her children

alone standing amidst the wreckage
the ruins of our childhood
like diseased orphans

no more everafter for the five year old
who was to left to my care
the all too jaded seven year old

A trembling sadness overcomes me for you & your sister. I am no stranger to this pain.
I only hope that you know what a blessing you are & that you have a message for others.
peace & blessing. . . elle :)

When words are put down they become a story.

When the words are crafted, as yours,

they become even more.

( a masterful write ! )

I have tears, this is so heartbreaking.
I am so sorry that you had to live this.
It is difficult to write on such topics as well as you have put this experience to poetry.

Hugs you tight

Michelle

A shocking event. It must have been an incredibly difficult poem to write, so you did well to even process all the pain and despair you must feel.
