Dear me,
I’ve written to give you
A very important message.
I want you to know
That this doesn’t mean
I love you any less.
I’m going away now.
I’m going astray now.
I’ll leave my cocoon,
I’m leaving my nest,
I’m leaving my morals with all of the rest of my past.
Dear me,
I got your letter,
I wanted to write you
To give you my support.
I know what you’re doing,
I know that you’re changing,
I know that you love me,
And I love you back,
And you know what’s right.
You know what you need.
So get on that bus and validate me.
I know what you’re after, I know you can get it.
If you give yourself just a little more credit,
Then you can be happy,
Whatever you do.
If you can be happy,
You know I will too.
Dear me,
Thank you for all you’ve done in all my life.
I’m glad you appreciate,
And if I can compensate,
For all of the pain I’ve caused,
And all your strife.
Just write me a letter,
I’ll make it all better,
Just point to the wound,
And I’ll remove that caustic knife.
I’m sorry, and I hope you don’t feel betrayed.
Welcome to the end of the lemon parade.
Do you remember the day, we sat on your swing,
and talked about nothin’, and did everything?
I’m starting to cry now, so I’d better go.
I’ve still got to pack, but I want you to know
That I’ll always be here, and I’ll always care,
And you know our past will always be there.
So have a nice day, a good rest of your life.
I’m sorry I stabbed you with that caustic knife,
But there’s no forgiveness, no time for good-byes,
I’ve been far too patient with my own obscene lies.
I wish I could kiss you, just one last time.
But I’ve got to go now, I know I’ll be fine.
Dear me,
There’s something that I forgot to tell you.
But now you’re gone, so just what should I do?
I just wanted you to know,
You didn’t have to go,
I waited on the street corner,
so I could see you off,
and I haven’t seen you,
it’s been three days.
I’ll treasure your life with me for always.
It’s starting to snow now, I really should go now,
But you haven’t left yet, you never drove by.
It’s awfully cold now, am I gonna die?
When we were together, I had such a blast,
Now I don’t exist. I’m just part of your past.
Goodbye.

WOW! This is a really good poem. Some parts made me laugh - others made me sad and what a unique topic to write about. I really enjoyed reading this. Thanks for sharing.

I loved this, really... It made me think of how so many people want me to change, but it's just too hard to say good bye to my old self. But I shouldn't have to change because someone says so any how... Beautiful.... Now back to your poetry to be amazed once again..
