Deep in the woods in the darkness of night
a little boy lost got a terrible fright,
for deep in the shadows came a blood-curdling growl
it was the dreaded sound of a vampire-owl.
As the sound of its wings began to come near
the little boy trembled and cowered in fear,
and though he tried so hard not to panic
he had to escape from this beast so satanic.
So, running as fast as he possibly could
slipping and tripping on things in the wood,
looking for some place in safety to hide
where that vampire-owl could not get inside.
But all he could find to offer protection
was a very small log with a hollowed-out section,
into which he did scamper as fast as could be
to escape from this creature so hideously.
But the vampire-owl had the scent of its prey
and was determined that he would not get away,
and homing right in on the scent of the kid
it didn't take long to find where he hid.
On powerful wings it flew down through the trees
down where the boy crouched on stiff bended knees,
and peering inside, it let out a loud screech
for its juicy next meal lay just out of reach.
Safe from the threat of those razor-sharp teeth
the little boy let out a huge sigh of relief,
"i'm safe inside here" he thought with a grin
"there's no way that vampire-owl can get in."
But the vampire-owl would never surrender
a little-boy meal, so delicious and tender,
and using its fangs like the teeth on a saw
upon the wood of the log it did gnaw.
Little by little it widened the hole
and soon was within reach of its succulent goal,
and using its tongue like a sensitive finger
upon the flesh of the boy it did linger.
It tasted the fear that oozed from his skin
and could not wait for the feast to begin,
the little boy smelled the stench of its breath
and knew he was only seconds from death.
Closing his eyes, he whispered a prayer
a plea that would help him escape this despair,
to escape from the threat of this cold-hearted beast
and avoid ending up a delectable feast.
But after a time, he opened his eyes
and when he did he got a surprise,
for there he was all safe in his bed
the darkness had gone and the creature had fled.
But, outside his window, perched high in a tree
sits a creature whose eyes glow so hideously,
patiently waiting for sleeps sweet embrace
to envelop the boy - and to continue the chase.
