The Difference a Day Makes

Yesterday, I was feeling sad and forlorn,
So sad that I wished I hadn’t been born.
I wondered if the world would miss me at all,
Would anybody care to hear my plaintive call?
Would I be missed if I were not here?
Would anyone feel sad and shed a tender tear?
Such black thoughts troubled my darkened mind,
Melancholic thoughts made me walk as if blind.
I couldn’t see others’ smiles just inches away,
I was totally unaware of them throughout the day.
Today, I feel brighter in my outlook of life,
I no longer feel that life is nothing but strife;
A friend encouraged me by recounting my true worth
Saying how nobody is more richer in all the earth
Who has a family that truly cares a great deal,
And thus, my heart began to slowly heal.
Yes, today, a new child was born to the world;
Today, those red rose petals finally unfurled;
Today, a sparrow became a mother at last
And thus, my face was no longer downcast.
