inside of this bottle you will find
no message, no genie
but instead a stumbling, muttering
breathing disease
yes, at the bottom of this bottle
lies a broken, hollow man
who drowns his woes in vodka
whenever he can
no, he doesn't know what day it is
he doesn't know the time
all he knows is that, if he wants out,
he's in for one hell of a climb
for, the walls of this special prison
have been greased with endless tears
gushing from a sorrow
that's kept this bottle open for years
with each drink, he dies a little
both outside and in
and with each intoxicating, bottle-neck kiss
his connection with reality grows ever thin
he's beating on these tear-smeared walls
screaming for another shot
begging you not to judge him
cuz this is all he's got
when he starts drinking, all is naught
the bottle is his only friend
and when things get tough
he'll be cowering in the bottle in the end
when he's ***** faced, he can actually be seen
functioning without his mask
but by morning, he's usually sobering up
and the guise re-appears at last
the bottle seems to be shrinking now
or perhaps, his problem is growing
hell, he's barely aware that he has a problem
so there's really no way of knowing
when's he's drinking, he'll swear he's fine
but you can smell the decay in his breath
truth is, he won't be happy til
he drinks himself to death
go on and say "aww", pretend that you care
but, i assure you, he doesn't need your pity
he can quit if he wants, he's nobody's fool
yes, this prisoner in the bottle is me

I agree this is a powerful poem and it touches so many people in so many ways you couldn’t understand...my moms boyfriend is and acholic and it gets tough around him sometimes he’s never hurts us he wouldn’t but he runs his mouth and trust me that’s enough...but we moved outta his house and back into one of our own and things are better now...I don’t mean to tell you my life story...but I know how powerful addiction is...GREAT WRITE... |

wow... this was painfully sad and honest
have been greased with endless tears
I loved it all, but that line really stood out to me. I have felt like this at times, but not nearly as intensely as u described.
