Lacey and Ralph

Contributed by shelby on Wednesday, 2nd September 2009 @ 07:00:16 PM in AEST
Topic: FriendshipPoetry

I would see the pair, here and there, everywhere.
Once in a great while, he would check in with a smile.
Often times, spending a night, in the room next door.

This man, with a pack on his back, his dog walking at his side.
Just the two of them, no car to drive, rain or shine
the pair always together, not a complaint, just being.

We had a chance to meet them, he knocked upon our door.
Handing over half a bag of shrimp, stating he thought he would share.
A conversation insued, thus we met, Lacey the dog and Ralph.

He told us their story, things we understood,
we talked of the economy, and days long past of truckin and being on the road.
Lacey sitting nearby, not a bark or sound, just happy she had company around.

So the evening came, and we knocked upon his door,
with a plate of food, and a hamburger for Lacey( that is what she adores)
and smiles danced in Ralphs eyes, Lacey wagged her tail.

Ralph and Lacey checked out, they were back off to the streets.
Our hearts feeling a bit sad, wishing we could do more for them.
Hoping they will be back, then we can knock on each others doors.....

sharing stories once more, a smile and a plate of food that meant so much..........

There will be more to this story later...........

Cool, I'll look forward to it.

Thank you for the reminder that I need to be thankful for what I have.
