Art & Craft

"Ok your task today" said the teacher
"Is to create and draw your favorite creature
It doesn’t have to be real it can be fake
For example a shark crossed with a Rhino crossed with a snake"

A silence fell over the normally loud class
Their minds were sifting through animals fast
Trying to match up wings with oddly looking tails
A little boy’s animal was held together by nails

The strange but interesting animals began to form
Stepping out of the paper this was not the norm
Squawking, roaring and barking quite aloud
Around the class room there gathered a curious crowd

"Oh my, oh my!" a frantic principle said
Running around like a goose that had lost its head
"What is the meaning of all this clatter?
All this noise what the heavens could be the matter?"

"Please sir don’t be afraid
It isn’t an intergalactic alien raid
It’s my very own animal that stands before you
Would you like some paper to draw one too?"

"Oh no oh no ill be quite all right.."
He said still in shock from the strange sight
"How can we make them go away?"
"But sir why can’t they just stay?"

"They’ll destroy the school and the entire town
They’ll trample the buildings in to the ground"
"But sir my animal is the most best
The kindest in the north, south, east and west!"

"This is no place for the animal was his reply"
There was a sad nod and a long sad sigh
It’s hard to fit back in to the page being so tall
Motionless once again the creature now hangs on my bedroom wall.

A sweet and charming write. Quite delightful. I could imagine
reading this to children and getting a few grins and a chuckle
or two. Enjoyable read. Well done.

This poem is so cute. It reminds me of my cousin's drawings.
