Unflinching

anguished

It wasn’t something that happened abruptly.
No, it was far more insidious than that.
A hemorrhage over a lifetime, of my love,
that has left a dead girl walking
I’ve spent far too long in denial to stop now,
believing in the smoke and mirrors and lies.
The numbness is too familiar after all this time,
for me to know the difference anymore.
Even now, with the sun bright in the sky,
I’ll walk unflinchingly into that unsheathed blade,
until it is fully seated and bursts through my back,
impaling me on all their accusations.
Like Prometheus, doomed and bound to his rock,
so too, do I keep running back, day after day
to the altar of love, the very breath of life,
desperate for someone, anyone, to take me as I am.
And like that lost God, that suffering fool,
I will continue to bleed and fade and fall.
Unable to turn away from what eludes me,
I will wear their scarlet letter.
Please...please...kill me again.

Ah me, the raw heart of hopefulness stained with despair. I know I'm drifting that way again when I read about others putting their head on the chopping block (or navels to the pointy end of a Ginzu), and unconsciously, wistfully, rub the blade line on my neck between C2 and C3.
People sure can be cruel, but love is lifeblood.
Nicely, done.

Well you certainly put me right there with you!
It reminded me of a scene from theatre...I loved it!

Thank you for your visit and your kind and humbling words.

Oh sweetie ... I know how deeply this runs. There is much to reflect in your words. There are moments
when that "unsheathed blade" reminds us (as it goes in ) just how alive we are. And with that, we realize,
regardless of pain, we must stand and be who we are. We must reach for the unreachable. We must face
the cloaks and daggers of our decisions, or what is the point?
One of the things I love most about you is your conviction and your strength, but within this piece, it
is your bravery that shines.
Hold on. Good things do happen. ^_^ We need to remind ourselves of that when all the clouds are grey.
love and stuffages and tons of hugs

Even though I know this type story all too well and even more so, am sorry that you even have to endure any of this, it has yet produced an excellent metaphor from the pen of Dawn. You have taken the proverbial stab in the back to new heights!
Excellent writing, my friend and I do not say that simply because you are...my friend; I say it because it is true.
Luff,

Oh Dawn,
this is so deeply painful to read.
I relate to this so very much.... this part right here I’ve spent far too long in denial to stop now,
believing in the smoke and mirrors and lies.
ohhhhhh I know....... This is another touching and well written verse dear friend. I wish the pain wasn't resting near your sweet heart.
Hugs you tight and tighter
