Why Do We Try?

Contributed by cjc on Sunday, 30th March 2003 @ 05:05:00 PM in AEST
Topic: FamilyPoems

Our children, do we love them, of course we do!
We nurture them from the moment they enter our lives
We sacrifice ourselves to provide for them
To love them
To protect them
To educate them
To honour and respect them

Our children, do they return the same love
The same respect
The same qualities we have tried to instil in them?

Some of us may answer yes, others may not!

I choose to answer my children do not!

So why do we try?

Our children are our responsibility
Their ages from birth, childhood, teenagers to adulthood certainly play havoc
Havoc within their bodies and minds
Total confusion you might say!
Did we not suffer within?
Of course we did!
Did we respect our parents or love ones, yes we did!
Did our parents bring us up in a different world, yes they did!
BUT
Does that give the rights for the children of today to dis-respect us?
NO, I dare say!

So why do we try?

We love them, that’s why!

Hi Christina! Thankyou for your kind words. I will be writing a fair amount of poems about my two children, my very un-amicable divorce and my horrific experience at the hands of bullies in the workplace! This will be my way of expressing my most inner feelings & thoughts that i have basically kept to myself for several years now! I know I'm not alone, I want to share my past with others who care & understand the pain & suffering individuals are subjected too. Thanks Again - Chris

A beautiful write. Love is a power within ourselves to share. Love is the greatest of all gifts. Thank you for your poem.
